Experimental beta · updated 2 September 2026

Usage terms

These are plain-language minimum terms for trying Formlings' no-payment beta. By using it, you agree to use the experiment lawfully, respectfully and within its technical limits.

What the beta is

Formlings is an evolving mathematical-art experiment. You may create, rank, evolve, view, download the currently offered PNG, and use the available sharing and remix controls. Access is provided for testing and creative exploration, without an account or charge.

Features, limits, appearance and availability may change. Active sessions are temporary and can end because of inactivity, capacity, maintenance or faults. Do not use an active session as your only copy of something important.

My Collection

Adding an artwork to My Collection asks Formlings to retain its protected source for the disclosed anonymous-Collection period. Collecting is private and does not publish the artwork, grant commercial rights or make it eligible for a public catalogue.

The initial Collection is limited to 64 artworks and becomes eligible for expiry after 180 days without a valid Collection use. It depends on a bearer token in the current browser and cannot be recovered if that token is lost. The app never silently removes the oldest item to create space; you choose what to remove.

You may select Collection artworks to start a new seeded generation. Those selections are retained unchanged as elites while the protected service fills the remaining positions normally. The new population is an independent branch and does not alter the Collection sources.

Generated output

You may download and share the PNG offered by the beta for personal, non-commercial testing and enjoyment. You may also share Formlings links and create independent remixes through the provided controls.

The beta does not currently sell or grant commercial-use rights, print-production rights, exclusivity or a licence for merchandise, advertising, client work or resale. Applicable law may treat generated output differently in different places; Formlings does not promise that an output is copyright-protected, unique, non-infringing or registrable. Similar outputs may be created for other users.

Sharing licence

When you deliberately create a population share or publish an artwork, you ask Formlings to retain the exact source generation and give anyone with the opaque link access to view it and create an independent branch. You grant the project the limited permission needed to store, render, display and deliver that shared material for those functions.

A created unlisted link is not placed in Discover. Choosing Publish to Discover separately makes the image and its exact source generation publicly accessible and eligible for catalogue ordering and moderation. Do not publish or share anything where doing so would violate another person's rights or law. Keep private management tokens private. A recipient's remix is separate and does not alter the published source.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • break the law, harass others or use the service to cause harm;
  • overload the service, evade rate or usage limits, or automate abusive traffic;
  • probe for, extract or publish protected genomes, seeds, engine code, credentials or private records;
  • pretend a shared work is private, exclusive or endorsed by Formlings; or
  • interfere with reporting, unpublishing, security or other users' access.

Access or a publication may be limited or removed to protect the experiment, investigate abuse, comply with law or control operational cost.

Reports and removal

An available artwork page can be reported using its Reportaction. A publisher whose browser still holds the private management token can use Unpublish. Unpublishing blocks the public page but does not erase the protected source and audit record.

Population shares cannot currently be revoked or deleted through the public interface. Questions about the beta can be sent to the current Formlings beta account on Instagram, but the beta does not yet provide a formal rights-request workflow or guaranteed response time. Do not create a durable share if that limitation is unacceptable.

Service limits

The beta is provided as available and without a guarantee that sessions, links, images or features will remain available, error-free or unchanged. Durable production records are designed to survive ordinary service restarts, but “durable” does not mean perpetual or backed by a service- level guarantee.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you are responsible for keeping your own downloaded copies and for deciding whether your intended use is lawful. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.

Privacy and changes

The privacy and retention notice explains active sessions, preference assistance, opaque identifiers, local storage, sharing and aggregate demand measurement.

These terms may be revised as the experiment changes. A commercial launch requires separate operator details, payment, refund and commercial-rights terms; none of those are silently created by this beta notice.
